Russian diamonds can be of mined or synthetic variety. As the resources of natural or mined diamonds continue to get depleted, the production of synthetic diamonds is on the rise and these are much cheaper than the natural ones.

Russia is among the top producers of diamonds, producing synthetic diamonds as well the mined ones. Here are a few tests to help you know if it’s real natural diamond or not.

1. As diamond mines are spread over the world and many countries produce the same, it’s difficult to know if a particular diamond is from Russia. Generally, the seller should provide a certificate from a reputed company to confirm the country of origin of the diamond, in the absence of which the diamond may not be from Russia.

The said website emphasizes that the diamond must be cleared of dust and be absolutely clean, else the result of this test can’t be relied upon.

3. Using a magnifying glass, view the diamond from the top to examine its cut. The facets of a real diamond have sharp edges, unlike the rounded ones of a fake diamond.

4. Examine the girdle of the diamond. The point where the rounded crown of the diamond meets the part of the diamond that tapers to a cone shape is called girdle.

Diamond Cutters International mentions that in case of a real diamond it would be frosty or have faceted appearance whereas  a fake one has a waxy appearance.

5. Again, using a magnifying glass examine the diamond for flaws. A real diamond has minute cracks or flaws, but a fake one would most often be free of any such flaws.
