Pink diamond is believed to be very fancy with intensity of color varying from light to dark. It’s evaluated on the basis of richness of color.
Features
A diamond that has a perfect structure of carbon molecules has clear color. A diamond acquires whether pink or other color due to imperfections that naturally occur in its structure. It is unlike a yellow diamond that inherits its color as nitrogen atoms replace a definite number of carbon atoms in its structure.
Classification
A pink diamond is classified in three colors: reddish pink, magenta pink and brownish pink. Each category is further graded to eight levels from one to eight, whereas one represents the most powerful.
Considerations
Since naturally pink variety of diamonds is very rare, they are rated higher than colorless diamonds. The deeper the intensity of pink, the more expensive it becomes.
Misconceptions
You also get synthetically produced pink diamonds with the same characteristics as that of a natural one. To make them distinct from the natural diamonds, the synthetic ones come with the name of the manufacturers and a serial number that is laser etched on them.
Sources
For long the only choice of natural pink diamonds have been the Williamson Mine in Tanzania, till Argyle Mine in Australia started offering the same. The latter produces ninety percent of total pink diamonds worldwide.
